Goodbye, Heart Attack, Goodbye
My Dad has been battling his weight for quite some time now. While it hadn't seemed as if he were getting bigger as I grew throughout the years, relatively it was undetectable to me because I too was growing. The big fear was that he would get rid of the Hep C only to have a heart attack, rendering the misery he went through all for nothing.
Clinical Trials/Studies
This morning on Google news I read this story about a group of patients who were basically on their deathbeds, riddled with tumors all said would most certainly take their lives. Then lo and behold each one of the total 13 participants was self-introduced to a clinical trial, as a final fighting chance. Miraculously 11 of the 13 responded to the clinical drug and their tumors began to shrink and disappear. This is the incredible thing about clinical studies...they are miracles waiting to be discovered.
Waging War
So much time has passed since my last entry. And the reason for this lapse is that of a miracle. Shortly after ending his second treatment in November 2008, our lives changed in ways one fantasizes about while watching an episode of Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous. Shortly into 2009 my family was apprehensively preparing for his third round of poisoning when a phone call changed everything. The call was made by one of his nurses from the clinical trial that had always fought tirelessly to keep my father in the study against the strenuous criteria set by the host pharmaceutical company.
The New/Old Way
The change in diet has been relatively successful for my Father, mostly because of his determination to lose weight. The only problem I can see is that perhaps he is forgoing much needed nutritional meals simply because there is so much that he can't eat. I think it overwhelms him and he would rather just not eat. Eating is very important though, because his body needs all the vitamins and minerals that good foods can provide. We have been fighting over his water intake as well. Water is mentioned as a very important component no matter what source you are referring to.
